It takes a lot of hard work by a team of dedicated volunteers, to put on this terrific show out for competitors and visitors alike. The committee, working together with the show's partners aim to deliver an effective and professional organisation for the greater good of the equine showing season.
A large part of the work of the Showcase of Champions takes place in committee, made up of very knowledgeable and experienced individuals from different equine backgrounds. Committee members consider proposals and plan the with the aim to introduce progressive improvements to the show and the showing season.
Show Ambassador: Mr. Bob Champion MBE
I am delighted and honored to be the Ambassador for the Showcase of Champions. Who better to be behind the show said Carol... it’s all in the name! The Champion at the Showcase of Champions. Your chairman Carol Cooper was a very persuasive task master. I’m looking forward to putting my name to this fantastic show, and delighted to announce that I will be judging a number of competitions this year where all proceeds will be donated to my charity, The Bob Champion Cancer Trust.
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Gary Docking as the show's Driving Patron. Mr. Docking, a man of many talents, is a famous writer, and a west-end performer. He has served on numerous driving society committees for many years, and has over 40 years of experience in production and showing in driving competition. His conviction, enthusiasm, and glamour, is a great asset to the show.e are delighted to welcome as our showing patron.
The Showing Patron: Mrs. Karen Hamilton-Smith
We are delighted to welcome as our showing patron. Mrs. Karen Hamilton-Smith is well known throughout the showing world for her production in miniature horses. Prior to having miniatures, Mrs. Karen Hamilton-Smith produced show ponies, and dressage horses for her daughter. Mrs. Karen Hamilton-Smith is also an American carded judge, and brings a wealth of equine knowledge to the team. Her care of all from animals and humans alike is second to none. She has kindly accepted to continue to act as the show's welfare and competitor liaison officer for 2017.
Show Chairman: Ms. Carol Cooper
Ms. Carol Alanda Cooper needs no introduction to the showing world. She has achieved the highest rankings at Horse of the Year Show, Mini-HOYS, and the Winston Churchill Cup at the Royal International. Ms. Cooper also bred and produced her winners over many years. She now allocates her time to organise the Showcase of Champions the next equestrian bonanza!
We are delighted to welcome Mrs. Fiona Bay- Griffiths B.H.S.A.I as the show’s Performance Director. Her will focus be on enhancing performance section of the show. Better known as Tig, she successfully qualified as a BHSAI at the age of 18, and went on to teach widely at Riding Schools, Pony Clubs, Riding Clubs and also free lanced. She went on to work as a professional Polo Groom for the Casa Roja Polo team where she also worked for Stuart Copeland, former drummer of The Police. Her most famous pupils were both of Sir John Major’s Children. Since her retirement from riding, she has concentrated on Miniature Shetlands and Carriage Driving, also organising and participating in taking part in numerous charity events for equine welfare. The photo shows Tig at work with her beloved rescued performance pony RSPCA Felledge Scotch. She can be seen at the end of the act, where Scotch (aka Roo) lies down on command.
Marketing & Promotion: Mr. Dax Smith
Mr. Dax Smith joined the Showcase of Champions committee as the Marketing and Promotions Director in December 2016. After making his debut, he has played a critical role in promoting the show. Mr. Dax Smith’s involvement with equine industry spans across three decades. He spent his younger days attending county, PUK, and BSPS shows with his family and siblings. Dax has always had a passion for miniature horses, and driving. He began driving a miniature Shetland at the age of ten. Last season saw his return to the show ring showing miniatures for the Lucky Legend Team with great success.
Show Manager: Mrs. Mandy Jones
Mrs. Mandy has been certified 'horse mad' since before she could walk! Mandy has competed in most disciplines over the years, but had a particular love for endurance riding in which she successfully competed with her ex racer 'Bert'. She developed an affinity for miniatures after buying the girls' first Shetland pony. Mrs. Jones brings with her a wealth of knowledge and is excited to be joining the team. Recently, she started a group on Facebook dedicated to small equines and organises photo shows, with proceeds going to equine charities.
Principal Show Steward: Mrs. Terrie Cowley
Mrs. Terrie Cowley has been showing since she was five years old. She breeds, and shows Native Coloured horses, and alongside her mum she runs ARCHES Amateur Colored Horse Society where she is Chief Steward at Lionswood Coloured Horses. Mrs. Cowley has a wealth of stewarding expertise having stewarding positions at many shows to her credit, and is very much looking forward to stepping into her position at Showcase of Champions as the Principle Show Stewart. She would like to extend her best wishes to all those competitors and visitors.
